Meet Our Doctors
Steven Johnson, DDS
After earning his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, Dr. Steven Johnson earned his D.D.S. degree from the University of the Pacific, where he graduated in 1994. Since then, he has remained up-to-date with his profession through numerous continuing education courses including those in conscious sedation, orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. Dr. Johnson is also an active member of the dental community, with memberships in the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry and the California Dental Association. He is currently serving on the National Advisory Board of Lumineers™.
V. Joseph Holbrook, DDS
Dr. Von J Holbrook graduated from UC Santa Barbara with an undergraduate degree. He then went on to earn his DDS at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. He has stayed up-to-date on current dental techniques and continues to take education classes. He currently is a member of the ADA, CDA and the Santa Barbara-Ventura Dental Association. He loves to see children and families of all ages. Dr. Holbrook and his wife currently live in the Santa Ynez Valley and have three girls.
Shawn L. Hlavaty, DDS
Dr. Shawn L. Hlavaty (pronounced Lavaty) earned his D.D.S. degree from New York University College of Dentistry with postgraduate training in Oral Implantology, and has trained with some of the worlds most prominent Cosmetic and Implant specialists. Dr. Hlavaty is a State of California Certified Oral Sedation Dentist and his professional affiliations include the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and the International Congress of Oral Implantology. Dr. Hlavaty lives in Santa Barbara with his wife and two children. In his free time he enjoys surfing, snowboarding and biking.
Greg Smith, DDS
Dr. Greg Smith graduated from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 2005 and has been practicing in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Beverly Hills. Over these past years he has had the opportunity to explore specific interests and gain invaluable experience in implant dentistry, CAD/CAM restorative dentistry, cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry and he enjoys keeping abreast of and utilizing the latest technological advances. Outside of the office he spends his free time with his family. Living near the beach also allows him to enjoy his favorite past time: anything to do with the ocean. He likes everything from surfing to taking his dog to splash around in the water. When the waves aren't good he enjoys cycling and running. He's also learned his way around the kitchen and have a lot of fun cooking. Prior to dental school Dr. Smith studied chemistry (San Diego State) and then chemical oceanography (Florida State). He also spent a little time teaching in Ojai and Ventura.
Jeff Plicka, DMD
Dr. Jeff Plicka earned his D.M.D. degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He currently is a member of the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association. He is active in community service with the Los Medicos Voladores and Give Kids a Smile program. He also has become specialized in sleep apnea appliances and helping patients get a better nights sleep. Dr. Plicka and his wife live in Santa Barbara and have a 4 month old son.
Dr. Lance Grant, DMD
Dr. Lance Grant was raised in Solvang and graduated as a Pirate from Santa Ynez High School. He then went on to receive his Medical Biology degree with honors from the University of Utah. Dr. Grant then received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh. During that time Lance served as the American Student Dental Association Pittsburgh chapter President. Which he then received the Delta Dental Leadership award for is outstanding service in the organization. He enjoys doing oral surgery and working with patients with special needs.
Lance has three boys with his wife, and now resides in Santa Barbara. He loves to mountain bike, go surfing, rock climb, golf and go camping with his family.
Dr. Paraon N. DeQuiroz, DDS, FICOI
Dr. Paraon attended the University of Irvine and received his biological sciences degree and then went on and graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He is board certified in IV Sedation and has advanced training in cosmetics, full mouth reconstruction, endodontics, implant surgery and restoration. He also has over 1100 hours of continuing education courses and is currently on Faculty for MegaGen Dental Implants USA.
Erik D. Winn, DDS, Anesthesiologist
Dr. Erik D. Winn spent his childhood in a small town outside of Chicago, IL. He went to Augustana College from 1997-2000 and then completed dental school at the University of Iowa in 2004. Medical missions to Haiti before and directly after the earthquake in 2010 changed his life, as that was where he fell in love with anesthesiology.
It was on these trips that he also met two young boys he would soon adopt. Dr. Winn attended a residency in dental anesthesiology at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Jacobi is a Level 1 Trauma Center, Burn Center, and Pediatric Trauma Center.
The majority of the residency was in the general operating room, treating the full scope of anesthetic candidates including major trauma, pediatrics, neurosurgery, thoracic, spinal orthopedic, and bariatric surgery. Outside of the OR, he was expected to respond to respiratory crises hospital-wide. He has continued interest in optimizing the office-based dental experience. Dr. Winn resides in Santa Barbara with his wife, four children, two Corgis, and two guinea pigs. When not at work, he can frequently be found at a farmer’s market or running the dogs at the beach.
Dr. Jared Lee, DDS, Orthodontist, MS
Dr. Jared T. Lee attended Brigham Young University and received his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education with a double major in Exercise Science and Anthropology. He then received his D.D.S degree from the University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry in 2008. After completing his D.D.S. degree, he completed his Postdoctoral Master of Science in Orthodontics from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. He currently lives with his wife Debi and twins Bethany and Isaac in the Ventura County.
